This article explains how to install the Grassfish Android Player on a iiyama 4339AS device.

System requirements

Before you begin the installation, ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

Keyboard shortcuts

We recommend to use a Logitech K400 keyboard. If you do so, note the following keyboard shortcuts before you start the installation:

• To go home, use the Home key or F2.

• To go back, right-click with your mouse or press F1.

• To navigate, use the arrow keys.

• To open, press Enter.

Note

On iiyama devices, the arrow keys make it easier to navigate through the Android menus (similar to IR control).

Prepare the iiyama device

After the first start or factory reset, you must configure some settings. Perform the following steps:

1. On the Language screen, select your language.

2. Click the arrow on the right to continue.

   

3. On the Mode Select screen, select Normal.

4. Enter the 6-digit password in the Confirm Password field.

5. Click the green checkmark to confirm.

6. Click the arrow on the right to continue.

   

7. Skip the Clone screen by clicking the arrow on the right.

8. On the Signage screen, modify the Signage display name if you want to.

   

9. Press Home to exit the app.

Configure device settings

To configure the settings of your iiyama device, perform the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, use the keyboard arrows to navigate to Advanced Option and click on it.

   

2. Use the arrow keys to navigate to Power saving and open it with the right arrow key.

   

3. Select Mode 2: WOL off, source input wake up on, Backlight off.

4. To exit the settings, click on the top left arrow.

   

5. To exit the Advanced Option, click on the top left arrow.

6. On the Home screen, use the arrow keys to navigate to Configuration 1 and click on it.

   

7. Use the arrow keys to navigate to Android launcher.

8. Click the right arrow key to open it.

   

9. In the Android launcher, click Settings.

   

10. Click About device.

11. Locate the build number and check whether it matches the minimum firmware version. If not, update the firmware first.

12. Click at least 7 times on the number to unlock the developer options. You will see the message: You are now a developer!

    

13. Use the Back key to navigate to the Settings.

14. Click System.

15. On the System screen, click Date & time.

16. Select your Time zone.

    

17. Click the top left arrow to exit this setting.

18. Click Developer options and turn on USB debugging. If it is already enabled, turn it off and on again.

    

19. Navigate back to the Settings.

20. Click Network & internet.

21. Turn on your network interface and configure it if necessary.

22. Click on your network interface and note the IP address. You will need it later to connect your PC with the device.

    

23. Navigate back to the Settings.

24. Click Signage display.

25. Click Server settings.

26. Turn on ADB over network.  

Install Grassfish Player and tools

Note

By default, the installation includes Grassfish software components as well as the TeamViewer host and add-on. TeamViewer is not Grassfish software. If you don’t want to install it, delete the lines from the installation file.

To prepare the installation on your Windows PC, perform the following steps:

1. Unzip the installation package

2. Open a terminal and change to the directory of the unzipped installation package.

3. Type the command: adb connect <your IP address>

4. In the Allow USB debugging dialog on the device, select Always allow from this computer and click Allow.

   

5. Repeat the adb connect command on your PC. It should return: already connected to <device>

   

6. Open the folder with the unpacked installation package and double click on the file Install_gf_tools_on Iiyama.bat.
   

7. Check the log to make sure that the installations and settings were successful and error-free.

   

Configure Grassfish components on the device

To configure Grassfish components on your device, perform the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, click Apps.

2. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the app GF Device Owner

3. Open it with Enter.

4. In the Allow GF Device Owner to access photos, media and files on your device dialog, click Allow. The device reboots now.
   

5. In the subsequent Grant permissions dialog, click Open next to Grant local permissions.
   

6. In the Allow GF Player to access system information dialog, click on Allow.
   

7. In the Allow GF Player to take pictures and record video dialog, click Allow.

8. In the Allow GF Player to access this device’s location dialog, click Allow.

9. In the Allow GF Player to access photos, media an files on your device dialog, click Allow.

10. In the Allow GF Player to record audio dialog, click Allow.

11. Click Open next to Grant system settings write access.
    

12. Set Can modify system settings to Yes.
    

13. Click Back.

The player automatically starts the InitBox. The installation and setup are now finished.

Connect player and server

Note

Before you begin the initialization, ensure that the player has been set up on the server and has a valid license in the IXM Platform.

There are two ways to connect the player to the IXM Server:

• Use the generic provisioning service

• Use the classic InitBox

Initialize the player via generic provisioning

Note the following prerequisites:

• You need a PC to open the provisioning service website via: yourserver.xy/gv2/gf/provisioning/#/

• Note the TPID from the InitBox to connect to the server and load all pre-configured settings and content.

Initialize the player via the classic InitBox

To initialize the player using the InitBox, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start classic InitBox.

   

2. Select your screen orientation using the drop-down menu (1) or the arrows (2).

   

3. Click Save and continue.

4. On the Configure your system screen, configure your settings and configure a serial device if needed. For more information on the settings, click here.

5. Click Continue.

   

6. Enter your IXM Server URL and Box-ID. Optionally, use the pre-filled one.

7. If your server uses HTTP, Turn off Use HTTPS connection.

   

8. Click Initialize player.

The player may reboot and begin downloading content and settings from the IXM Server. Until the download is complete, the player displays the Grassfish logo as a placeholder.
