This article explains how to install the Grassfish Android Player on a Philips 25BDL4050i device.

System requirements

Before you begin the installation, ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

Hardware

Philips Device 25BDL4050i:

  • Firmware minimum version FB1.05

  • Connected to power and network

Micro USB to USB A cable

Network connection

PC with Windows 10 or later

Software

Grassfish installation package for Philips e-paper version 11.14.4 or later

Supported spot types

The Grassfish Android Player supports the following spot types on Philips 25BDL4050i devices:

  • JPG

  • PNG

  • MP4

  • HTML5 (HTML Composer and ASC)

  • Website

Minimum duration

You must set the spot duration to at least two minutes. The display rendering time is 36 seconds. Please note that in real operation this is longer anyway.

Spot playback

After the spot starts playing, videos and HTML spots display a screenshot for three seconds and website spots for 15 seconds.

Prepare the PC

To prepare the PC, perform the following steps:

  1. Download and extract the installation package.

  2. Connect the Philips 25BDL4050i device to your PC via USB-A to Micro-USB.

  3. Wait until your PC has detected the device.

  4. To check your Android debug bridge (adb) connection, open a command prompt on your PC and switch to the directory that contains the installation package.

  5. Enter the command adb devices and press Enter to execute it:

    • If the command returns the serial number of the device, your adb connection works.

    • If it’s empty, install the Rockchip adb driver on your PC and try again (Download RK-Driver Assistant).

  6. Once adb is working on your PC, go to the installation package and open the folder Scrcpy_64-2-0-1080.

  7. To open a remote session to the device, execute the file scrcpy-console.bat. The remote window looks like this:

Install the software package

To install the software package, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the installation package folder

  2. Execute the file Install_gf_Tools.bat. The batch file installs the Grassfish Player software and third-party tools and performs some pre-configuration.

  3. Check the log in the command prompt to make sure that all ten steps completed successfully or without an error.

  4. After the installation, swipe up on your remote screen’s Android desktop to open the app drawer.

  5. Locate the GF Device Owner app and open it.

  6. In the subsequent dialog, click Allow to give the app access to all files.

  7. To grant files access, select the following apps one after the other:

    • Host (recommended only if you use TeamViewer)

    • GF Player

    • GF Device Owner

  8. For each app, enable Allow access to manage all files.

  9. When you're done with the apps, click the arrow in the top left corner to go back and let the device reboot.

  10. After the reboot, go to the installation package and and open the folder Scrcpy_64-2-0-1080.

  11. Execute the file scrcpy-console.bat to reconnect to the player.

  12. On the Grassfish Player’s Grant permissions page, click Open next to Grant local permissions.

  13. In the Allow GF Player to take pictures and record video dialog, select While using the app.

  14. In the Allow GF Player to access this device’s location dialog, select While using the app.

  15. In the Allow GF Player to record audio dialog, select While using the app.

  16. In the Allow GF Player to make and manage phone calls dialog, select Allow.

  17. In the Allow GF Player to access photos and media on your device dialog, select Allow.

  18. Click Open next to Grant do not disturb access.

  19. Under Do Not Disturb access, select GF Player.

  20. Enable Allow Do Not Disturb.

  21. In the subsequent dialog, click Allow to confirm.

  22. Right-click to go back to the permission settings.

  23. Click Open next to Grant system settings write access.

  24. Under Modify system settings, select GF Player.

  25. Enable Allow modifying system settings.

Once you’ve granted all required permissions, the installation is complete. The InitBox starts and you can initialize the player to connect it to the IXM Platform.

Connect player and IXM Platform

Note

Before you begin the initialization, ensure that the player has been set up on the server and has a valid license in the IXM Platform.

There are two ways to connect the player to the IXM Platform:

  • Use the generic provisioning service

  • Use the classic InitBox

Initialize the player via generic provisioning

To initialize the player using the InitBox, note the following prerequisites:

  • Generic provisioning requires IXM Platform version 11.15 or later.

  • You need a PC to open the provisioning service website.

  • Note the TPID from the InitBox to connect to the server and load all pre-configured settings and content.

Initialize the player via the classic InitBox

To initialize the player using the InitBox, perform the following steps:

  1. To connect to your device again, execute the file scrcpy-console.bat.

  2. Click Start classic InitBox.

  3. Select a screen orientation. Note that only portrait and landscape work on this device. If you need to change the screen orientation later, you can do so in the IXM Platform.

  4. Click Save and continue.

  5. On the next screen, click Timezone.

  6. Set the time zone according to your player’s location.

  7. Click the arrow in the upper left corner to go back.

  8. Optionally, click Network to configure your network or WiFi.

  9. Click the arrow in the upper left corner to go back.

  10. Click Continue to enter your server connection and Box-ID.

  11. Click Initialize player to connect to the IXM Platform.

The player starts to download content and settings. After successful initialization the Grassfish logo appears by default.


Changing your password will log you out immediately. Use the new password to log back in.
