Install Android Player on Philips CRD50

This article explains how to install the Grassfish Android Player on a Philips CRD50 device.

System requirements

Before you begin the installation, ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

Prepare the Philips device

Before you begin the installation process, you must prepare the Philips device.

To do so, perform the following steps:

1. On the Welcome screen of your device, select your language and click Start.
   

2. Under Security Settings, select ADB Over Network.

3. Click Next.
   

4. Under Signage Display Settings, select Manual Setup.

5. Click Next.
   

6. Perform one of the following steps. This will not affect the installation process:

   • Enter a Signage Display Name and click Next.

   • Click Skip to skip this step.

7. In the Network settings, select Main switch to see all available networks.

8. Under Clone Media Files into internal, select Skip.
   

9. On the Setup Complete! screen, select Finish to complete the setup process.

10. Open the Settings in one of the following ways:

    • Click the Home key.

    • Press F2 on the K400 or K400+ keyboard.

11. Enter the default password 0000 and click Ok.
    

12. Click Settings.
    

13. In the Settings, select Display.

14. Move the slider to set the font size to Default.
    

15. Go back to Settings and select Signage Display.

16. Click on Misc and select Enable 4K resolution.

The device is now ready for the installation of Grassfish software and tools.

Install software and tools

To install Grassfish software and tools on the device, perform the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, select Network.
   

2. Select your connected network interface:

   • Ethernet

   • Wi-Fi

3. Under IP address, check the device’s IP address and write it down. You’ll need it in the next step.

4. To connect your PC’s Android debug bridge (ADB) to the device, open a command prompt on your PC and enter the following command: adb connect [device IP address]

5. Press Enter to execute the command.
   

6. Unpack the Grassfish installation package in a location that meets your requirements.

7. Open the unpacked installation package.

8. Run the file Install_gf_Tools.bat. The script performs the installation and sets the device owner on the device.

9. In the subsequent window, check if all steps of the installation process were carried out successfully.

Configure settings

After the installation, you can configure additional important settings on your device.

Set the player app

To set the player app as the source custom app, perform the following steps:

1. On your Philips device, select Settings.

2. Select Signage Display.
   

3. Under Signage Display, select Source settings.

4. Select Custom app.

5. Under Custom app, select Select app.

6. In the app selection, select the GF Player app and click Save.

After a few seconds the device reboots. Please wait until the device has finished the reboot before you continue the setup process.

Configure the player app

The GF Device Owner app requires permissions. To grant them, perform the following steps:

1. On your Philips device, select Apps.

2. Select the GF Device Owner app.
   

3. In the subsequent dialog, select Allow to allow the app access to resources on the device. The device performs a reboot.

4. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Set Chrome as WebView provider.

5. In the Set WebView implementation dialog, select Chrome Stable.

6. Right-click to return to the permissions dialog.

7. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Grant local permissions.
   

8. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Grant do not disturb access.

9. Select the GF Player app.

10. In the subsequent dialog, select Allow.
    

11. Right-click to return to the permissions dialog.

12. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Grant system settings write access.

13. Enable Allow modifying system settings.
    

14. Right-click to return to the permissions dialog.

15. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Disable Screensaver.

16. Set the screensaver to Off and right-click to return to the permissions dialog.

17. In the Grant permissions dialog, open Disable Stay awake.

18. Select Disable Stay awake.

The player now switches to the InitBox where you can continue the installation and setup process.

Connect player and server

Note

Before you begin the initialization, ensure that the player has been set up on the server and has a valid license in IXM One.

There are two ways to connect the player to the IXM Server:

• Use the generic provisioning service

• Use the classic InitBox

Initialize the player via generic provisioning

Note the following prerequisites:

• You need a PC to open the provisioning service website via: yourserver.xy/gv2/gf/provisioning/#/

• Note the TPID from the InitBox to connect to the server and load all pre-configured settings and content.

Initialize the player via the classic InitBox

To initialize the player using the InitBox, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start classic InitBox.

    

2. Select your screen orientation using the drop-down menu (1) or the arrows (2).

    

3. Click Save and continue.

4. On the Configure your system screen, configure your settings and configure a serial device if needed. For more information on the settings, click here.

5. Click Continue.

    

6. Enter your IXM Server URL and Box-ID. Optionally, use the pre-filled one.

7. If your server uses HTTP, Turn off Use HTTPS connection.

    

8. Click Initialize player.

The player may reboot and begin downloading content and settings from the IXM Server. Until the download is complete, the player displays the Grassfish logo as a placeholder.

After the download, the player turns the screen off for 15 to 30 seconds during playlist and content validation. It then starts playing back the playlist content.
