Update firmware on RKM-DS03, DS02, V7P

Note

Firmware updates should only be performed by trained personnel.

This article describes how to update the firmware on RKM-DS03, DS-02, and V7P devices.

System requirements

Ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

• RKDevTool_Release_v2.96_zh

• Rockchip_DriverAssitant_v5.1.1

• USB-C cable

Update the firmware

To update the firmware of your device, perform the following steps:

1. Connect the device via USB-C to a Windows PC with the Rockchip ADB drivers installed.

2. Double-click on the RKDevtool.exe file that was supplied with the firmware.
    

3. In the RKDevTool, check if the ADB connection is working.
   

4. Open a Windows command line terminal.

5. Type adb reboot loader.
   

6. In the RKDevTool, check whether you can see the loader device.
   

7. In the RKDevTool, click Upgrade Firmware and Firmware.

   

8. Open the firmware image.

   

9. Click Upgrade.
   

10. Check the update progress to ensure that no errors occur and wait until you see Download Firmware Success.

Configure Android apps

After updating the firmware, device starts on the Android desktop. To configure its apps, perform the following steps:

1. Open the app drawer.
   

2. Wait until all apps are displayed. This takes about a minute after the first launch.

3. Ensure that the following apps are installed:

   • GF Device Owner

   • GF Player

   • TeamViewer Host

4. To disable updates, open the Google Play Store app.

5. Open the Play Store menu and click Settings.

   

6. Click Network preferences.

   

7. Set Auto-update apps to Don’t auto-update apps.
   

8. Go back to the app drawer.

Configure TeamViewer Host app

To configure the TeamViewer Host app settings for the Android Player, perform the following steps:

1. Connect the device to the internet.

2. Open the Host app.
   

3. To confirm the requested permission, click ALLOW.
   

4. If a new update is available, click UPDATE.

5. Once the update has been download, click INSTALL.
   

6. Open the Host app again.

7. In  the Add-On available dialog, click INSTALL.
   

8. Once the add-on has been download, click INSTALL.

9. After installation, click DONE.

10. Go back to the app drawer.

Set the device owner permission

To set the required device owner permission, perform the following steps:

1. Open the GF Device Owner app.
   

2. If a File access permission dialog appears, grant it. If not, the app already has all required permissions,

Set Android Player permissions

Note

Depending on your device and firmware, you may need to set more or fewer permissions than described here.

To set the required Android Player permissions, perform the following steps:

1. Next to Grant do not disturb access, click OPEN.
   

2. Enable GF Player and click ALLOW in the subsequent permission dialog.
   

3. To return to the permissions page, click the arrow on the left or right-click.

4. Next to Disable Screensaver, click OPEN.
   

5. In the Settings, click When to start and set it to Never.
   

6. To return to the permissions page, click the arrow on the left or right-click.

7. Next to Grant system settings write access, click OPEN.

8. Enable Allow modifying system settings

9. Click the arrow on the left or right-click to return. This starts the InitBox where you’ll see your TPID.
