# Use helper functions

The GFSpotBase supports the following helper functions.

## Integrate log outputs

Intercepts and integrates log entries written by the GFSpotBase into the log mechanism of your HTML application.

| Parameters | `function(msg)` **msg** is the log message. |
| --- | --- |
| Examples | `function init() {GFSpotBase.spotBaseLog = function(msg){yourOwnLogging(msg);};}` |
| Players | Windows Player version 7.7 or later Linux Player version 8.0 or later |

## Read the GFSpotBase version

Provides the current GFSpotBase verison as a string.

| Parameters | None |
| --- | --- |
| Examples | `GFSpotBase.getVersion();` |
| Players | Windows Player version 7.7 or later Linux Player version 8.0 or later |

## Search for a URL parameter

Searches the URL parameters for a certain parameter and returns the value of this parameter or “null” if it’s not available.

| Parameters | `function(paramName)` **paramName** is the parameter that is searched. |
| --- | --- |
| Examples | `Var usePreload = GFSpotBase.findUrlParam("usePreload");` |
