# System requirements

Before you install the IXM Server, ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

| **Component** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Windows Server | Grassfish uses Windows as the host system. --- **Version**: Windows Server 2019 or later |
| Database server | Grassfish uses Microsoft SQL Server as a database. --- **Version**: Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or later. We recommend using a current SQL Server version as the minimum requirements may increase with each server version. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Note that the SQL Express Edition is suitable for smaller projects. However, it can only serve a limited number of players and lacks certain features such as the SQL Maintenance Plan and SQL Server Agent. |
| File storage | Grassfish stores video, image, and log file data in a storage instead of the database. This storage can be a Windows Server Share or a different storage solution. --- **Storage capacity**: - We recommend an initial storage of 100 GB and ensuring the possibility of increasing the storage space. - Depending on your project, the storage space can vary greatly. In general, the minimum requirement is 20 GB. --- **User rights**: - The Windows user who executes Grassfish services must have full access rights to the storage. - The Windows user who executes the web server application pool must have full access rights to the storage. |
| Network | You must activate port 443 (HTTPS) and, if required, port 80 (HTTP): - If you use additional services for data supply such as SSH, FTPS, or SFTP activate the required ports as well. - To set up communication with the server, you must determine the URL that should connect to the IIS in advance. Use one of the following formats: `http://Servername`, `http://ServerIP`, or `http://Domainname`. --- **HTTPS certificate**: Operating an HTTPS page requires a valid certificate that meets the following requirements: - Trusts the browser with the display of IXM One. - Is trusted by all players. > [!NOTE] > Note > > If this is not the case, you can only operate the server unencrypted. We don’t recommend this as it poses a security risk. |

## Server components

In addition, install the following components on the server before installing the IXM Server:

| Web server | - Microsoft .NET 4.6.2 or later - Microsoft IIS - URL Rewrite - FTP Server (optional) |
| Backend server | - Microsoft .NET 4.6.2 or later |
| Useful additional software | - Notepad ++ (backend and webserver) - 7-Zip (backend and web server) - Nartac IIS Crypto Tool (web server) - Google Chrome Browser (web server) |
