HTML Basic spots (formerly known as „Local HTML spots") and HTML Wizard spots should be developed for the resolution in which they are played; special attention should be paid to a 1:1 playback for media. This is particularly important HTML Basic spots because they are not scaled on the player and the content is therefore truncated. The background color of the website should be identical to the background color of the playlist in order to avoid any flickering.
Testing the spots
Each spot should be tested directly on the target device to ensure the correct display.
Performance and stability of the player
Special attention must be paid to the performance and the memory management of HTML spots, because insufficiently programmed HTML spots can compromise the stability of the player. The performance of the player depends on the hardware features of the device, it is therefore not possible to make a general conclusion.
Media and animations
The hardware of the player and the browser used by the player must be kept in mind with regard to the media and animations used on the website. We recommend testing an early version of the spots on the target hardware to detect and avoid performance bottlenecks at an early stage.
Supported media formats
We recommend the following format for videos: MP4 (H.264)
The following formats are supported for images: PNG, JPG
Supported data formats
For data files, we recommend the use of JSON or XML files.
Please keep in mind that such files are not uploaded as spots in the Grassfish IXM Platform but must be stored on the server as data files.
Browser on the player
For both Windows and Linux, the browser available for use on the player is the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF). We recommend that you optimize the website for the browser available on your players.
